¿Auténtico poeta desdichado o héroe de la prensa amarillista? Cuestionamiento que muchos aún no resuelven respecto a Pete Doherty. Desde sus días con The Libertines, era foco de atención por sus escándalos, mas no por su música. Con la eventual desintegración del cuarteto, Doherty fundó Baby Shambles y editaron “Down In Albion” en el 2006. Un primer álbum caótico y de ideas tan dispersas que sólo logró desviar la atención hacia Dirty Pretty Things, la nueva banda de su excompañero libertino, Carl Barat. A finales del año pasado Baby Shambles editó “The Blinding E.P.”. En tan sólo cinco canciones, Doherty demuestra que no depende más del factor Barat para seguir adelante. Ideas más claras, buena ejecución y la integración de trompetas, hacen que la música de los Baby Shambles deje de ser blanca o negra y empiece al fin a pintarse de distintos matices. Con “The Blinding E.P.”, Doherty se hace de puntos extras como poeta desdichado, aunque sigue ganando por dos rayitas en su calidad de héroe de la prensa amarillista.
